This is just a short thought. I was talking with a friend who fighting for a cause he believes in. His group has publicly called out a major corporation for their unfair practices and is now facing possible backlash. Unfortunately, this action has also brought some pretty nasty threats from individuals on the internet. And that got me to thinking...
Once upon a time, the Village Idiot was called that because everyone could plainly see his or her actions as foolish and silly. Then the internet came along and allowed each village's idiot to connect and draw strength from one another despite their small minority, giving them false courage to believe in their immaturity.
We now call them Internet Trolls because like their storybook namesakes, they hide in deep shadows where their intended victims can hear their intimidating howling. But a more real reason why they stay in the shadows is that so no one can see that they're mostly small, pitiful skulkers too afraid to face anyone.
